The Lunar New Year’s Eve on January 21, 2023, marked the beginning of the Spring Festival celebrated worldwide. We celebrated the Lunar New Year at the Upper Dublin Public Library, featuring diverse traditions for all ages. Highlights included an enchanting Er Hu musical demonstration, interactive activities like dumpling making and paper folding, and a Qipao costume demonstration.
The event’s standout was an engaging Kahoot! game created by CBCA youth volunteers, fostering cultural understanding and attracting participants of all ages. It provided a lively, educational platform for attendees to connect, learn, and celebrate the New Year together.
Red Envelopes
Red envelopes, or “hongbao” or “lai see,” are traditional gifts in Chinese and Asian cultures, commonly given during special occasions like the Lunar New Year. These red envelopes symbolize good luck and are typically filled with money.
